On November 30th, former Mustang Karenina Aguilar received a very distinguished award being recognized by the OUA as one of their Women of Influence. She joined 15 other female student athletes recognized for their accomplishments in the classroom, on the court, and in the community, for a luncheon hosted by keynote speaker Cassie Campbell.
Aguilar, who is currently studying medicine at Western, was a four-time Academic All-Canadian as a Mustang. She earned a gold medal with the highest four-year GPA in her graduating class in the Honours Kinesiology BSc Program. A regular on the Dean's Honour List and recipient of numerous awards including the Governor General's Medal (2002), Aguilar was also very involved in the London community. She is an active volunteer with the Alzheimer's Outreach Program at McCormick House, the MS Society, among a number of other community endeavours. She was the 2005-06 recipient of the OUA's prestigious Joy Bellinger Award, awarded for her combined excellence on the court, in the classroom and in the community.
Karenina has simply set the bar for excellence as a student-athlete for the Women's Basketball Program. The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics along with the Women's Basketball Program, her teammates and coaches along with all our Alumni would like to congratulate her on such a significant and deserved accomplishment.
